W. A. Mozart
Requiem

8:00pm | St. Stephen’s Cathedral

BUY TICKETS FROM € 25,- NOW

W. A. Mozart's Requiem is one of the best and most moving pieces of classical music. The myths surrounding Mozart's last composition contribute to the incredible appeal of this masterpiece. The Requiem contains the strong emotions that people experience in the face of death: Fear, anger, despair, sadness, hope, consolation.

Mozart's connection with St Stephen's Cathedral is known the world over. Mozart married his wife Konstanze in St. Stephen's Cathedral and two of his children were baptised here. After his death, he was laid to rest in the cathedral before being transferred to St Marx's Cemetery in Vienna. Mozart's name can be found both in the death record and in the so-called Bahrleihbuch (death register) of the cathedral, and his marriage to Constanze Weber (Nannerl) is also noted. The concert will be complemented by the short composition ‘Das Lob der Musik’ by Mozart's companion and double jubilarian Antonio Salieri, as 2025 will mark both the 200th anniversary of his death and the 275th anniversary of his birth.

Under the direction of Erasmus Baumgartner, current Artistic Director of the Vienna Boys' Choir, Mozart's masterpiece will be performed by internationally renowned singers as part of the Sing along! Choir Festival, Mozart's masterpiece will be intensively rehearsed over several days by choral singers from all over the world. The crowning finale is the performance with renowned soloists and the Vienna Cathedral Orchestra in St Stephen's Cathedral.
