W. A. Mozart
Requiem
6:30pm | Salzburg Cathedral
Listen to the traditional Mozart Requiem on All Saints' Day in Salzburg Cathedral.
W. A. Mozart's Requiem is one of the best and most moving pieces of classical music. The myths surrounding Mozart's last composition contribute to the incredible appeal of this masterpiece. The Requiem contains the strong emotions that people experience in the face of death: Fear, anger, despair, sadness, hope, consolation.
Mozart and the cathedral and the city of Salzburg are inextricably linked. In his native city, he worked in the service of Archbishop Colloredo as concertmaster and court organist. Some of his most important works of church music were premiered here, including the Coronation Mass, the Credo Mass and the Sparrow Mass.
Together with Erasmus Baumgartner, current artistic director of the Vienna Boys' Choir, the cathedral orchestra and renowned soloists, the Mozart Requiem will be presented this year as part of the Sing mit! Choir Festival. Under the direction of Erasmus Baumgartner, the masterpiece will be intensively rehearsed in several workshops by choral singers from all over the world.
