LUCIA
Lights and Songs
8:30pm | St. Stephen’s Cathedral
Listen to a concert with Lucia procession in St Stephen's Cathedral on the occasion of the Swedish Festival of Lights. Choirs from Sweden and Austria will light up St Stephen's Cathedral with Christmas spirit.
On 13 December, Sweden celebrates Saint Lucia - one of the country's most popular cultural traditions. The Lucia celebration has its roots in a rich mixture of pre-Christmas customs. During the longest night of the year according to the old calendar, people began to drive away evil and celebrate the return of the longed-for light and Lucia. The atmospheric Lucia procession is led by Lucia with candles in her hair, followed by maids and star boys, all dressed in white. Seeing and hearing the Lucia procession coming in the dark and singing in a choir is one of the most typical Swedish experiences.
Adolf Fredriks Music School in Stockholm is the most prestigious music school for youth choirs in Sweden. The choral music specialisation enjoys a high international reputation.
