To mark the 20th anniversary of Slovakia's accession to the EU, the Slovakian Institute invites you to a festive gala concert at St Stephen's Cathedral in Vienna. Under the direction of the renowned conductor Peter Valentovič, the Chamber Orchestra of the Slovak Philharmonic, the Bratislava Boys' Choir and the celebrated soloists Adriana Kučerová (soprano) and Pavol Breslik (tenor) will present a varied programme that reflects the musical diversity of Europe. Together, they will create the setting for a gala concert that celebrates the European spirit and cultural solidarity of Slovakia.
Highlights of the evening include Handel's rousing ‘Rejoice’ from ‘Messiah’, Malotte's moving ‘Lords Prayer’ and Schubert's ‘Mille cherubini in coro’, followed by Caccini's touching ‘Ave Maria’ and Bach's ‘Air’. The musical journey continues with parts of Mozart's Mass in C minor to Franck's ‘Panis Angelicus’ and Gounod's ‘Ave verum corpus. Barber's moving ‘Adagio for Strings’ will create a moving atmosphere before the concert comes to a worthy conclusion with Bizet's ‘Agnus Dei’, among others.
The concert is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate Slovakia's cultural contribution to the European Union and to emphasise the country's connection to Europe's rich musical tradition. Don't miss this musical highlight and celebrate the diversity and cultural richness of Europe with Slovakia.
